There’s no escaping the lure of a luxurious Jaguar, especially one that has depreciated to a small fraction of its original purchase price. You certainly get a lot for your money when it comes to buying one of these cars, but for many decades, most models have not escaped major issues, whether it’s rotting sills on an X-TYPE or engine failure on an S-TYPE or XJ 2.7 diesel. The XF appears to be more promising. Launched in 2008, it was initially plagued with the same aforementioned 2.7D engine failure issues, but thankfully by March 2009, the larger 3.0-litre diesel replaced the Ford/Peugeot/Citroën unit. Other engine options included a petrol 4.2-or 5.0-litre V8 (supercharged and naturally-aspirated), a 3.0-litre V6 petrol and in 2012, a frugal 2.2D.
The XF proved to be competitive with the likes of the BMW 5-Series and Mercedes W218. With rear-wheel drive, 540 litres of luggage space in the saloon (550-565 litres in the Sportbrake), a sub-five second 0-60mph time from the 502-542bhp supercharged V8 models and up to 57mpg from the 2.2D, the XF was surely a winner.
By 2015, the Mk1 XF was in need of a facelift, so along came the Mk2 with smaller 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines, all-wheel drive
