In the mid ’90s we had unleaded petrol foisted on us and despite protestations from concerned groups and individuals we were stuck with it. The damage to older car engines was significant — not to mention the fires — as was the damage control by government and industry sources at the time. Settlements were made confidential, mainly to lessen the impact of what sizeable protests might otherwise have achieved.
