That old statement rings true, but finding a place to hunt might be easier than you think. The first time I knocked on a landowner’s door for hunting permission, I was excited and nervous — excited about the possibilities that permission would provide but nervous for a negative outcome. Would the landowner approach the door and listen or hand out a quick “no” without giving me consideration? I’ve learned that most landowners are at least willing to chat and hear your pitch. And I’ve gained more access to hunting land than I ever thought possible without leasing or owning land.
Not everyone has access to top-notch deer hunting grounds in the best regions of the country. But with some hard work, creative thinking and good communication skills, you can set yourself up for success better than you might imagine. Just follow a few common-sense approaches when requesting hunting permission
