LOST INJECTION

“There’s no way that a tuned, carburetted engine is going to meet the emissions criteria”

Q I own a Rover Cooper with a 1275cc on single point injection. I’d like to convert the engine to run a carburettor. I know that the current exhaust and inlet manifold will be different and will need to be replaced. Apart from removing the injection parts, what else will I need to do to the engine to enable it to run on a carb? Will I need to replace the cylinder head? Will the existing camshaft work?

A You don’t say why you’d like to make the change from injection to carb – are you having running problems, or are you planning to tune the engine in search of more horsepower and you believe the fuel injection system will be a limiting factor…?

If you are suffering from poor running, there are now plenty of specialists who are very familiar with the system and can get your car running as sweetly as the day it left the factory. Like so many things, all of the injection system’s faults are well known and understood and can be easily sorted.
