Well, aside from any excuse for the girl from Tiger Bay to break into song being a good one, the camper company we’re looking at today was responsible for one the best-known of all Volkswagen efforts. And while, for some, Moonraker will always mean one of Roger Moore’s more outlandish 007 adventures – he went into space, for heaven’s sake, in 1979 – for those of us of a VW bent, the name will always be linked with something rather more down-to-earth – Devon Camping Conversions of Sidmouth of, unsurprisingly enough, Devon.

Devon owes its existence to Jack White – no, not the one of White Stripes fame, but a West Country builder and carpenter with a German wife, Annalie. Because her family still lived in Germany, the pair
