SIXTY YEARS ON DAVID BROWN 880 AND 990
The David Brown range had been developing since the first VAK1 model of 1939. In 1956 the company introduced a brand-new design with the 900 model, a new tractor from the ground up that featured the familiar David Brown ‘Hunting Pink’ red colour scheme augmented with a new hint of blue on the radiator grille and on the wheel centres. With its straighter and longer bonnet, this was a radical departure from their earlier tractor designs. One feature that remained was the steering column slightly off set to the right, as with all David Brown tractors built hitherto.
Advanced TCU
The new 900 could be purchased with either 37hp TVO, 45hp petrol or 40hp diesel engine while the power was taken down to the ground via a six forward and two reverse speed transmission.
During its second year of production, in 1957, a two-speed PTO and the advanced TCU (Traction Control Unit) hydraulic system became available on the 900, along with the steering column being centralised to bring it in line with other manufacturers designs. A first for a David Brown
