MASSEY FAMILY PROTOTYPES

This overview of Massey family prototypes would not be complete without reference to a prototype tractor made by the Standard Motor Company-the Standard tractor. Two of Harry Ferguson’s original top engineers in 1958 left Massey-Harris-Ferguson to join an embryonic tractor development project. The tractor being developed looked not dissimilar to a regular Ferguson tractor and was fitted with a Standard 23C diesel engine. Two lots each of two and three tractor prototypes respectively were built, the first looking like a TE-type Ferguson but with the fuel tank to the rear of the engine. The second shown here had a more pleasing and modern design of bonnet. The project was abandoned when Standard was taken over by Leyland. Examples of each survive in private collections.
