How much can you remember of the 2013 Formula 1 season? Many will be able to recall the famous ‘Multi 21’team order that Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel ignored in the heat of Malaysia. But, eight years on, the final half of the year is more of a blur in the memory.
Acheck of the record books reveals that Vettel and Red Bull won nine races… in a row.. From Spa inAugust through to Brazil in November, the Milton Keynes outfit was the dominant force in Formula 1. It was untouchable as Vettel romped to his fourth World title.
Why is this relevant? Because until two weeks ago, it was the last time any team other than Mercedes had taken four consecutive race wins in F1. The final GP of 2013 at Interlagos was the last for the 2.4-litre V8 engine. The new turbo hybrid engine formula was on the horizon, as was Mercedes’ ascent into a period of domination.
