BACK ON TOP

It’s the downhills that really get you. Riding the high country trails of Victoria is spectacular and the crisp but fresh mountain air is invigorating. Being on a bike among those mountains is my kind of yoga.

The winding climbs demand a certain amount of conviction as the endless water bars provide grin-worthy jumps but they can also rob you of vital momentum. It’s a careful trade-off between horsepower and traction.

When you get to the top the view is always worth it but it’s the leg-burning rides down the other side that can really test man and machine. The descents are steep and littered with rocks, rain ruts and erosion mounds that look tempting for a little bit of air time but can easily punish you for getting too cocky.

The downhills go on, and on and sometimes on a bit more.
