Breaking a dry spell
It’s been quiet on the pigeon front — a cold spring certainly held everything back. A spell of rain and some warm weather in June made rural Britain burst into life. Meanwhile, pigeons disappeared and we are definitely behind compared with this time last year.
It has been a frustrating time for pigeon shooters because normally, at this time of year, I would be busy protecting peas or other green crops. But due to the cold weather of spring and early summer, it feels like the woodpigeon’s peak breeding season has been pushed back in the calendar. It just goes to show how adaptable these birds are.
