‘We knocked four into one’
HOW BETHANY DID IT
‘The old space was divided into four – a conservatory, long galley kitchen, small living), interior designer () and Such Designs kitchens (). to remove the two extensions, building the new kitchen on the same large footprint. We found large format terrazzo tiles (something I knew I wanted from the start), which worked out much cheaper than a concrete floor. The new layout incorporates banquette seating, and the children enjoy playing there while we prepare meals. Having lived here for three years before starting the work, we had a good sense of how the light moves so we could choose the right glazing. Although the space is north-facing, it’s bright. The work took five months and cost around £60,000.’
