The gentleman of wine
When I arrive at Casina Margherita on the Cerulli Spinozzi estate, I find myself in front of something truly magnificent: the massif of Gran Sasso – home to the southernmost glacier in Europe – is dominating the horizon with its grandeur. Below, a green expanse of rolling hills covered in vineyards and olive groves descends gently towards the blue of the Adriatic Sea. “It’s like living in a spa,” smiles winemaker Enrico Cerulli Irelli, the man behind the estate. “On some days, you go skiing in the morning and swimming in the afternoon.”
Enrico moved here at the beginning of the noughties to take the lead of his family business. With his elegant manners (which come from his noble heritage) and his charming demeanour, he is a perfect fit; he is one of those gentlemen straight out of the pages of a novel. Not just that, he is also a very wise entrepreneur, passionate about the wines he produces and about a territory – that of the Teramo province
