Astrology for The New Age
If you are reading this, noble ones, you must have a) survived the pandemic so far, b) survived (if you live west of the 100th meridian, as does your merry columnist) the summer forest fires that are all too frequent in the American West as a result of periods of ongoing drought or the ravages of global warming. In any case, Congratulations! Welcome to September, the anteroom to autumn, at least in those places that really have autumn, including New England but probably not including Los Angeles and environs (where your columnist spent a few pleasant years, back in the day, and found that for a native New Englander, going to the beach at Christmastime took some getting used to – maybe about 10 seconds).
Turnips and Zucchini
The astrological marker for the entrance to Autumn seems to be the Sun’s movement from Virgo into Libra1 — traditionally, anyway, though I don’t feel certain that tradition holds up all that well these days, due to the above-mentioned climate change. True, Virgo, an Earth sign associated with transitions, practical goings-on, and the Great Mother energy, seems an appropriate symbol for the work associated with the harvest, 2 and certainly the fall equinox reminds us all, via the angle of our planet vis-a-vis the Sun, that the nights
