Light-duty models from the Independent truck builders never had it easy, even before their era ended with International’s exit from the market.
The original Mack Junior line arrived in 1909, but the 1936 series is the one that’s better remembered. Built for Mack by Reo — a maker of both trucks and passenger cars — it lasted only through 1937 and was followed by the ED series as the smallest Mack. All were attractive trucks, but the EDs didn’t do as well as the Mack Junior in sales and never returned after World War II. Reo’s own light-duty trucks had a much better run beginning in 1910, later selling its own models through Mack dealers before building
