3RD BMW M 1000 RR
BMW’s first M bike arrived just in time for Ultimate Sportsbike 2021, and it’s safe to say that maybe our expectations were a bit too high for the homologation special.
As I documented last month in my launch report, most of the differences between the S 1000 RR and the M 1000 RR are inside the engine, waiting for race teams to take advantage. On the road they don’t make a jot of difference. Maybe the engine spins up a little bit quicker thanks to its titanium internals, maybe the brakes are a tiny bit sharper thanks to the new Nissin calipers, maybe it’s a bit more stable on the brakes thanks to the tweaked geometry. If it is, I can’t tell on the road, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Saying the M 1000 RR feels the same as an S 1000 RR on the road is high praise indeed; after all, the S 1000 RR made the final three last year and was Mike’s, Carl’s and Bruce’s favourite bike on the road.
