Kidney cancer usually affects adults in their 60s or 70s. There are several types, the most common being renal cell carcinoma. The exact cause is unknown, but risk factors include obesity, smoking, high blood pressure, a family history of kidney cancer, some inherited conditions and long-term dialysis treatment for chronic kidney failure.
