Why? To explore World Heritage sites, hike lush mountains and laze on unspoiled beaches.

Fly to Samos from London or via Athens (from £130), then take a ferry to Patmos (1.5 hours) from Pithagorio, the port nearest Samos airport. Back on Samos, hire a car that you can drop off at Karlovasi port. Take a ferry to Ikaria (from 1 hour), hire another car, then fly back from Ikaria via Athens.
