The debacle has further infuriated noisy fans already hostile to the invisible owner Stan Kroenke, who they blame for a slump from invincible champions to mid-table sterility.
What now? There is serious interest in buying Arsenal from billionaire Spotify owner Daniel Ek, which could spark a revival. The Swede insists that he is a life-long fan of the Gunners, and has been backed by club legends Patrick Vieira, Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry.
Yet Ek’s opening bid - reportedly for £1.8bn - was rejected. The most likely outcome seems to be that Kroenke stays
