his debut novel somehow has it all. It’s a queer romance with coolly biting political commentary, tender family dynamics, sharp social observations and the kind of genuinely laugh-out-loud humour that makes the reader turn into one of those annoying people who read passages aloud to anyone in proximity. Even then also has what is hard for even seasoned writers to pull off: crackingly good, authentic dialogue.
