Sustenance for a staycation

I have spent the vast majority of the past 10 years travelling around on holidays. Admittedly, they were other people’s holidays but it does mean I have become extremely proficient at launching myself into new kitchens and locations and quickly discovering the best of the area’s culinary scene.

If you have been swift and lucky enough to bag a vacation property somewhere on our glorious island this summer here are my top tips and ideas on how to make your self-catering holiday as fun, stress free and delicious as possible. I have included what and how much food and drink to take with you, culinary planning tips, recipe inspiration to see you through the week and how to deal with any leftovers.

There are further suggestions for each category listed after each recipe, and these can be found on The Field’s website. Visit: thefield.co.uk/recipes

ARRIVALS AND FIRST NIGHT

The first activity on arrival, after finding out the WiFi code, is popping on the kettle for a cup of tea – with the addition of a slice of home-made cake. Once baked, keep and transport your cake in the tin. This way it will survive the journey and you are guaranteed to have a tin to use during the week.
