Rooting FOR SPUDS

Ask any Brit what their favourite vegetable is, and chances are they’ll say a potato! Our love affair with this humble root vegetable is legendary – from fat chip shop chips to skinny fries, crispy roasties to fluffy mash, there’s no form of cooked potato that we don’t adore!

This wasn’t always the case. When potatoes were first introduced from the Americas in the 16th century, European farmers were sceptical – but due to their high nutrition and ease of growth, they went on to play a huge role in the population boom of the 19th century.
