EXPLOITING THE POWER OF A boat’s engine to assist the recovery of an anchor using what is known as an Alderney Ring is a very effective technique. It can save you a lot of hard work if your vessel is not equipped with a winch, but failure to follow the correct procedures can lead to the rapid swamping and probable sinking of your craft.
