Fly fishing is a fun and sometimes challenging method of targeting fish of all species. But for someone new fly fishing, one of the main barriers to getting started is confusion about tackle.

For many who grew up fishing conventional tackle using bait and lures, the switch to fly fishing seems confusing, overwhelming, expensive, and hardly worth the effort.

I don’t blame them. Thankfully, these days fly fishing is no longer the “exclusive” pastime only enjoyed by gentleman in tweed coats, smoking pipes and waving cane rods. It’s just another form of fishing, a very productive and fun form of fishing, but without the added “mystique” and expense that went along with it in the past.
