ALTERED SCALE SOLOING

Last time we looked at the first of four Altered scales I use in my playing to create tension and release when soloing, especially over Dominant 7 chords. We explored the Altered scale that comes from the Melodic Minor. This time, we are looking at an Altered Mixolydian scale.

This scale might win the award for having the most aliases! Renowned guitar teacher Mick Goodrick always referred to it as the Mixolydian b 2 b 6 scale, and that name just kind of stuck with me, so that’s how I always refer
