ENGLISH WRITER JOHN RUSKIN WROTE: “When love and skill work together, expect a masterpiece” – and this is exactly what Anne Clifton of Glass Manifesto achieves with her creation of probably the world’s largest handmade glass bead – at 10kg – and her other beautiful glass scent bottles, vases and platters. Anne’s inspiration comes from Paco Rabanne, who led the field in the 1960s in experimentation in fashion design, and whom she discovered had snaffled techniques from jewellery design, manufacture and materials.
Anne captured his way of thinking in her early years as an artisan, in sculpture, in the 1980s. She welded metals not unlike giant pieces of jewellery and as her skills increased she used similar ideas in ceramics and then finally glass.
