MAGELLAN TO THE AMAZON

In January 2016 I travelled on the cruise ship Magellan from Tilbury to Manaus, deep in the Amazon Rain Forest. It was an unforgettable experience cruising up this huge river in a 46,000gt cruise liner. One evening we had a very sharp and unexplained jolt. I thought we might have hit a sandbank as these were constantly shifting. I was in the restaurant at the time and the jolt resulted in a considerable amount of broken crockery
The ship docked in the centre of Manaus and it was a short walk to the famous Opera House, only achieved after an interesting journey ashore. Because of the continuously shifting river levels in the Amazon, the original gangway became unusable, as it was so steep, so we had to disembark through the food store access.
