FOR more than 3 000 years the Ancient Egyptian civilisation flourished on the banks of the Nile River in northeast Africa. But after Egypt was conquered – first by the Greeks, then the Romans and eventually the Arabs – Ancient Egyptian history with its treasures was systematically buried under layers of different cultures as well as the sands of the desert.
Centuries later, archaeologists known as Egyptologists started uncovering the treasures and knowledge buried there, leading to an ongoing fascination with this great civilisation.

Some of the rulers of Ancient Egypt, known and tombs – built for themselves. They believed that after the pharaoh died, he became , god of death. The new pharaoh then became Osiris’ son , the falcon-headed god of kingship and the sky.
