CRASH COURSE
When first responders arrived at the scene of a serious road traffic accident on the Barnet Highway, in Vancouver, they could see the male driver was trapped in the vehicle.
Straight away, paramedics and firefighters scrambled to rescue him, using the ‘Jaws of Life’ machinery to cut through the crumpled metal of the SUV.
The man, Jan Poepl, had been driving the car when it had crashed at high speed into a lamp post.
He was unconscious so couldn’t explain how the accident had happened.
As police walked around the crash scene to try and determine the chain of events, they came across the unconscious body of a woman in a ditch.
