We aesthetes are certainly slaves to appearances, but the very best design commentary about cars often concerns their grunt and feel, their atmospherics, as much as their prettiness. Lines I remember from my teens include a Car & Driver journalist describing the Corvette experience as ‘great gobs of steam locomotive, earth-moving torque’.
Soon someone will be writing about the aesthetics of the autonomous experience. Let’s pretend it’s 2025. And we must consider the fervid ingenuities
