Within minutes of David McPhail’s death being made public, I got a text from an Aussie film producer in Brisbane, commiserating with me on the departure of Mr Gormsby – the titular lead in the TVNZ sitcom Seven Periods with Mr Gormsby, devised by Danny Mulheron and Dave Armstrong, brilliantly directed by Mulheron, and produced with a little help from me.
