RED BULL: BUILDING BACK BETTER

You wouldn’t think a lecture given by Ron Dennis would be a particularly entertaining way to pass the time. But, on one occasion, the former McLaren boss was talking about some important development, while standing in front of an image of two sliver, cylindrical-looking towers. What they were has faded into memory. But Ron’s quip about them was very telling: “No…” he said with a wry grin. “These are not missiles aimed at Maranello”.

The old rivalry between McLaren and Ferrari has played out many times throughout the history of F1 with great drivers fighting the cause for each side. Think of James Hunt up against Niki Lauda,Ayrton Senna’s bitter war with Alain Prost or Michael Schumacher duking it out with Mika Hakkinen.

Formula 1 becomes a lot more edgy when two top teams are at loggerheads. It’s not just the on-track duels, but the politicking in the paddock, the barbs in?
