ustralian and New Zealand researchers have built a complete genetic map of the myrtle rust fungus, resulting in the world’s largest assembled fungal genome. Taking, which threatens native species, such as pōhutukawa, rātā and ramarama, and Australian plants, including bottlebrush, paperbark and eucalyptus species. “We are looking at what makes plants resistant to the fungus for better management of the disease,” says project leader Peri Tobias.
