The Heart Sutra’ central teaching—“form is emptiness; emptiness also is form”—suggests that our perceptions are inseparable from openness. An alternative translation is “form is openness,” and this openness includes all sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and feelings. The spaciousness of our experience dawns as open view and open heart, leading to open action.
