Let’s not retreat from globalisation

“We are all protectionists now,” says Jeremy Warner. The Western consensus is that globalisation has been bad for jobs, bad for security and bad for our self-esteem. There is something to be said for “all of these assertions”, but the truth is pushback “flies in the face” of market forces and, if “vigorously pursued”, will make us “relatively poorer, not richer”. “Trade is a two-way street”: you cannot hope to sell while refusing to buy.
