ric Liddell was a British Olympic gold medallist, Scottish rugby union player and Christian missionary whose story was immortalised in the Oscar-winning film (1981). Born in China to Scottish parents, he refused to run on a Sunday at the 1924 Olympic Games because of his religious beliefs, but he went on to win the 400-metre race.
