New York state of mind

New York is the kind of city that has embedded itself in the global consciousness. Regardless of whether or not we have actually set foot on its streets, we feel as if we know it. We recognise its landmarks, its aesthetics, and to some degree, its people, too.

In this new book from photographer Sally Davies – more known for her street photography work – she headed into the homes of dozens of the city’s inhabitants, capturing them among their posesssions in their apartments and studios. The results are as diverse as we might expect from NYC. We see drag artists, store owners, dog walkers, doctors, psychics, cab drivers, writers, gallery owners, photographers, tattoo artists, film producers, designers, dancers and musicians – to name but a few.
