Ecclesbourne Valley: now for the next 10 years

ON April 13, the directors of Ecclesbourne Valley Railway (EVR) operator WyvernRail plc ran a private train to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its reopening of the entire nine miles of the Midland Railway branch from Wirksworth to Duffield.

Heading the special train were on-loan BR Standard 4MT 2-6-4T No. 80080 from the Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust at Butterley, and Hawksworth pannier No. 9466, owned by West Somerset Railway plc chairman Jonathan Jones-Pratt.

A WyvernRail spokesman said: “It was fantastic to be able to run both of the recent additions to our steam fleet together for the first time.

“Celebrating our 10-year anniversary together, albeit in a small way, was a welcome tonic after several months of lockdown.
