YOU WILL NEED

■ Cotton fabric for a skirt made in a single fabric: Waist to hemline measurement + 6.25cm (2½in) x Hip + 2.3m (2½yd)

■ OR, main skirt: Waist to hemline measurement + 6.25cm (2½ in) x Hip + 46cm (18in)

■ And overlay: Hip + 25cm (10in) x 115cm (45in)

■ And waistband: 12.5cm (4 in) deep x Waist + 10cm (4in) long

■ Matching thread

■ Zip: use the longest length as you can always cut it down

■ Interfacing: 1m (1yd) x 150cm (60 in) wide

■ Matching thread

■ Basic sewing kit

TAKING YOUR MEASUREMENTS

Horizontal Waist: this refers to the natural waist; a good way to find this is to bend your body to the side – the deepest part of the bend is your natural waist

Hip: around the biggest section above the thigh

Vertical Waist to Hip: the distance between where the top of the skirt will sit and your hipline

Waist to Knee: the distance between where the top of the skirt will sit and your knee

Other Apex: across nipple to nipple
