How did you land the Donkey Kong Jr job?

I was hired by Steve Kitchen of Woodside Design Associates because of my experience with the Z80 processor. Steve’s brother Garry had developed the 2600 version of and we were under contract to develop several was my first project, and in fact my first game ever. We used Apple IIs for programming with a special card that simulated a game cartridge through a ribbon cable to the 2600. In the final stages we blasted EPROMs and plugged them into cartridges for testing.
