The grey geese left without saying goodbye and the only evidence of their stay is a growing pile of scarecrows in a corner of the old stone barn — wooden crosses with high-vis yellow jackets on, which seem to have kept them off the new grass leys quite effectively. There are, though, other signs: goose droppings and bare patches in certain favoured fields.
