A close match?
The 1960s was a golden era for British agriculture – the struggles of the post-war years gave way to better times and farmers could look forward to the future. With this came an investment in new machinery and a plethora of British-built tractors to choose from.
Amongst this tantalising spread were the International Harvester 434, built from 1966 to ’71, and the Nuffield 10/42 (1964-67). With almost identical power outputs and a similar ‘stature’, these two make for an interesting comparison.
Those that follow this series will know that we choose two closely-matched tractors for comparison in a bid to make it as fair as possible and over the next few pages we will examine the characteristics of both and give our opinion as to why we think each deserves to win the respective categories.
You may not agree with our choice as the winner of each section, or indeed the overall victor, but if we ignite old rivalries and/or provide a talking point, we have succeeded in what we set out to do!
