At nine months old, my daughter Poppy was into everything.

Crawling wasn’t enough any more, and she’d just learned to pull herself up on the couch, grinning a proud, gummy smile as she did.

‘Well done, Poppy!’ her dad, Kane, then 35, and I would clap.
