Welcome!
the weekend, my husband, Simon, and I went to a local oval to watch our nephew Angus play AFL. ‘Guz’ as we call him, is 20 and a top-flight player. It was team, most of whom are quite a bit younger than me, and they all confirmed that the mullet was indeed coming back. ‘Just the other day,’ said Rachel, ‘I was looking at a website for a salon I’d heard of, and was shocked to see a man with a mullet as their main photo!’ April said she, too, had noticed a bit of a mullet resurgence on the streets. While Kathryn commented that two years ago, she mistakenly booked a holiday in Byron Bay at the same time as ‘schoolies’ week, and there were ‘mullets everywhere’. But what about other hairstyles, I wondered? Are there other iconic looks of the past we should watch out for? My dad, Bob, for instance, used to rock a shiny neat quiff, which was the fringe slicked back and then pushed forward. John Travolta wore something similar in the movie, . And what of the fabulous beehive hairdo that was so popular with women in the ’60s? I asked mum about the beehive after seeing an old black and white pic of her on a night out with dad. They looked so glamorous. ‘Oh Linda,’ she said, ‘combing them out was a nightmare. And you’ve never seen so many bobby pins in your life!’ Mum said she wasn’t surprised they hadn’t made a comeback. Is there a hairstyle from your youth you’d like to see again? I’d love to know!
