    WELFARE VS PROFIT

    We read once again about puppies and dogs being stolen (News, 21 April). Is there any wonder when you take into account the high prices being charged by breeders? Pre-pandemic the average price for a pedigree puppy was £600 to £800 then, for no reason, the prices more than trebled.

    Not all of them are sold on; many are used for breeding and their puppies sold at these inflated prices. Breeders need to evaluate
