KRASH: How did you end up becoming a lifeguard?

HOPPO: I became a lifeguard many years ago, probably because I was doing lots of ocean racing and then it was good to be able to keep fit and train and also help people at the same time so that fitted really well with my lifestyle so that’ why I became a lifeguard.

KRASH: How has the job of a lifeguard changed from when you first started your career to today?

HOPPO: I’ve been here for 30 years so it’s changed a lot since 1991! We didn’t have jet skis or beach bikes when I first started, and now we run with two bikes
