FORTUNE FAVOURS THE BRAVE

It was 2010 that set Dean Ferris apart. After a tumultuous time racing for the Woodstock Honda Thor Team in 2008 and 2009 on a 250, Ferris stepped up to the 450 class as a privateer. Honda chipped in with a couple of CRF450Rs and the rest was up to Ferris and his very small group of friends and family.

So what does he do to start out on a big year of pro motocross racing? He heads into the Outback to race a desert-style motocross event in 40-plus degree heat. Ferris went head-to-head with Ben Grabham – who was in the prime of his desert-racing career – at the Deep Well MX and Dean took home the chocolates with the third and final moto win.

“I’d been ditched by the Honda team at the end of 2009 which was good because I never intended staying there. It was a disaster. But I had connections at Honda and they still wanted to support me so it was a favor for me to go to Deep Well, I knew it meant a lot to them,” Ferris says. “They had a desert team in Alice Springs with
