HOMING IN
One year ago, fans of hidden transmitter hunting were in the doldrums. Stay-at-home orders kept many from holding their regular mobile “T-hunts.” In places where traveling was permitted, there were restrictions against gatherings that kept hunters quarantined in their cars, unable to mingle at the hidden transmitter site or go to a restaurant afterward.
It was just as bad for on-foot foxhunters. Many parks were closed last year and permits for events were unavailable in the ones that were open. But vaccines are making it safer to gather and restrictions are now being loosened. My local club still can’t get a permit to use the cabin in our local park, but we are hopeful that the situation will soon change and we will be able to hold our annual spring foxhunt and barbecue on CQ World Wide Foxhunting Weekend.
Postponed Championships
Beginning in 2001, USA’s national championships of Amateur Radio Direction Finding (ARDF) took place every year until 2020. Plans were in place for last year’s championships to be near Boston in early June, but the meet had to be cancelled due to the pandemic. These championships were to be qualifying events for selecting ARDF Team USA, which would have traveled to Zlatibor, Serbia for the 20th World ARDF Championships last September.
The Amateur Radio Union of Serbia has rescheduled the World Championships for August 29 through September 4, 2021, a delay of almost exactly one year.
