COMPOSTING IN THE COMMUNITY

Laura Somerset, 21, works full-time at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and part-time caring for her cat, Mika. She lives with three flatmates in a heritage cottage in Berhampore. To avoid sending their food scraps to the landfill, she and her flatmates drop them off at the public compost bins and worm farms at Berhampore’s community orchard.

What were your options for composting in Berhampore?

In an ideal world I’d like to have a home compost system, but we didn’t want to invest in one given that we’re not sure how long we’ll be in this flat for. I also didn’t feel like I had the time and energy to figure out a compost system myself –
