BRITISH jump racing’s end-of- season finale at Sandown had a little of everything on Saturday; thrilling finishes, old stars returning, new stars making their way, controversy and even one result which appeared to have a degree of help from above.

The Bet365 Gold Cup used to be one of the great staying chases of the season, one notch below the Grand National but on a par with the Hennessy and, like the Newbury feature, one of the first sponsored races when it was the Whitbread.
