Campaign to recognise war hero rebuffed for being black

A FORMER Durban man is on a crusade to rectify the injustice caused to war veteran Job Maseko, who was denied the Victoria Cross (VC) award because he was black.

Maseko sunk a Nazi vessel during World War II using a makeshift explosive made from a can of condensed milk.

William Gillespie, originally from Durban but now living in Somerset, UK, recently started a petition to have Maseko posthumously awarded the VC.
